New Generation

A New Generation Gap?

Uncommon Common

Uncommon Common Ground

Even after the election of America's first black president, racial inequality continues to plague the nation. Barack Obama's election ushered in a new era of hope, but measurable racial change is still elusive: We still fail to graduate more than one-quarter of young black men from high school, and nearly a third of all African American, Latino, and Southeast Asian American children live in poverty. By 2050, possibly as early as 2042, the United States is projected to be a nation with no single racial group as a majority. It is no longer just the future of racial minorities that is worrisome; the nation itself faces peril if the new, broader majority fails.
