Anthony Foxx is the Right Nominee for Inclusive and Equitable Transportation Policy

WASHINGTON, DC – Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and Angela Glover Blackwell, founder and CEO of PolicyLink, issued the following statement on the nomination of Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx to be the next Secretary of Transportation. The Leadership Conference and PolicyLink work together as collaborative partners to advocate for an inclusive federal transportation agenda that promotes equity for all Americans:

“The nomination of Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx to be the next Secretary of Transportation bodes well for our nation.

As a mayor of a growing and diverse city, Foxx has shown a commitment to ensuring that municipal transportation policies increase opportunities for all of the city’s residents. During his tenure, Foxx has demonstrated how a transportation system of  highways, light rail, street cars, and buses, can drive growth by serving a broad cross-section of city residents and suburban and exurban commuters. His career as a public official has been marked by his ability to integrate local, state, and federal resources to meet critical transportation challenges.

We look forward to working with the Department of Transportation under his leadership to ensure that people of color, people with disabilities, young workers, older adults, and low-income people in both rural and urban America can participate in planning, improving, and utilizing America’s robust transportation systems.

In nominating Foxx to be the next Transportation Secretary, the administration is showing how having real world experience in creating jobs and connecting a city through transportation investments can help all people climb ladders of opportunity. We urge the Senate to swiftly confirm him.”
