Get in GEAR to Track Your Progress
eq·ui·ty [ek-wi-tee] Just and fair inclusion. An equitable society is one in which all can participate and prosper. The goals of equity must be to create conditions that allow all to reach their full potential.
PolicyLink is all about equity.
Now, more than ever it’s critical for the efforts of equity advocates to stay on course and evaluate the results of their campaigns, whether they are proactive efforts to change organizational rules, defensive efforts to block inequitable legislation, or strategic efforts to place community leaders in positions of power.
PolicyLink has created a suite of tools that will allow advocates, philanthropic groups, community leaders, organizers and their allies to measure and track the progress and results of equity campaigns. Getting Equity Advocacy Results (GEAR) includes:
- A framework to illustrate the components and stages of equity campaigns
- Benchmarks to chart the progress of equity advocacy
- Guidance for campaign planning and assessment
These tools are available both online and in print form. Online, advocates can read about GEAR on the web, download key materials in PDF form, and also use a new, interactive technology to learn at their own pace. Print materials include a one-page graphic, four “snapshots” of the benchmarks, an overview of GEAR, and a brief guide to assessment.
GEAR draws from the wisdom and experience of seasoned advocates and action researchers to provide tools for measuring progress in equity efforts for policy change across a range of issues. Go to GEAR.
PolicyLink is excited to offer this resource and encourages you to let us know how it is working for you. We invite you to submit guest posts to Equity Blog detailing how you are using GEAR, along with any suggestions you have for other users. Send submissions to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
